Carlos the Jackal goes on trial for 1974 Paris attack
Carlos the Jackal, the world’s most wanted fugitive in the 1970s and early 1980s, goes on trial in France for the deadly bombing of a Paris shop more than 40 years ago.
Carlos, whose real name is Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, is standing trial over a 1974 grenade attack on Paris’ Left Bank that killed two people and injured more than 30. He is serving two life sentences for other deadly attacks during that time.
Authorities have linked Ramirez to bombings, hijackings and other attacks. He joined the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and was affiliated with extreme-left European terror groups. He was seized by French agents in 1994.
