Erdogan to meet pope for talks expected to focus on Jerusalem recognition

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Pope Francis at the Vatican next month for talks likely to focus on the controversial US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Erdogan’s first trip to the Holy See will be on February 5, the Vatican says. It follows phone calls between the two leaders who share concerns over the crisis and agree the status quo should remain.
