IDF pushes off appointment of new southern chief

The army announces that it is putting off a changing of the guard at the head of its Southern Command.

Maj. Gen. Sami Turgeman was set to leave his position in favor of Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir, who previously served as military secretary to the prime minister.

The Gaza border region, which is under the jurisdiction of the Southern Command, has seen a recent flareup of violence, including riots and a rocket attack overnight.
