Locals say they may have seen Indonesian jet crash
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleVillagers in Papua New Guinea say they saw a plane crash into a nearby mountain, near where an Indonesian airliner with 54 people disappeared earlier Sunday.
Residents of Okbape village in Papua’s Bintang district told local police that they saw a plane flying low before crashing into a mountain, says an Indonesian aviation official. He says about 150 rescuers are heading to the area, which is known for its dense forest and steep cliffs, and would begin searching for the plane early Monday.
Okbape is about 24 kilometers (15 miles) west of Oksibil, where the plane was scheduled to land nine minutes after it disappeared.
