UN secretary-general offers praise for Haley despite policy differences
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleUnited Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s office is expressing “deep appreciation for the excellent cooperation and support” from US Ambassador Nikki Haley, despite major policy differences on issues including climate change and Palestinian refugees.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric tells reporters at UN headquarters that the UN-US relationship, and the relationship between the secretary-general and the US ambassador, is “very critical.”
He says Guterres and Haley had “a very productive and strong working relationship” and “worked hard to promote constructive ties between the United Nations and the United States.”
He adds, the UN’s differences with the Trump administration “are open and for all to see.”
