NEW DELHI (AP) — Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are holding talks aimed at strengthening ties and boosting trade and investment between their countries.

Morsi will also meet other top Indian political and business leaders during his three-day visit that began Tuesday.

Trade between the countries has been on the upswing and currently stands at $5.5 billion, making India Egypt’s seventh-largest trading partner.

Morsi is accompanied by several ministers and a large business delegation. The countries are expected to sign several economic and trade agreements during his visit.

Morsi is looking to attract investment into an Egyptian economy hit by two years of political upheaval. The turmoil has kept investors away and led to a sharp drop in tourism.
