A Palestinian man was shot and killed by Israeli security forces following a suspected attempt to carry out a car robbery at a gas station in the Etzion Bloc in the West Bank.

The man, 30, as well as another suspected accomplice, were noticed by police when the two allegedly tried to steal a vehicle in the parking lot of the Rami Levi supermarket near the Etzion Junction, Channel 2 reported.

One of the suspects was arrested by police on the spot, while the other fled the scene, with police and IDF soldiers on his tail.

During the chase, a soldier opened fire on the suspect, hitting the man and critically wounding him.

Medical teams that were rushed to the scene pronounced the man dead a short while later.

Police clarified that, contrary to initial reports, the man who was shot was not suspected of taking part in any form of terrorist activity.
