A combat soldier was hit by a bullet on Thursday after what appeared to have been an accidental discharge of a weapon. He was taken to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem in moderate to serious condition.

The accident occurred in an army base in the Mishor Adumim area, east of the capital.

The circumstances behind the incident were not immediately clear, and the IDF said it had launched an investigation.

The incident comes less than two weeks after two soldiers were killed in an apparently accidental grenade explosion.
