Team Israel’s baseball classic roster includes Shawn Green, Gabe Kapler
Israel faces South Africa on Sept. 19 when the double-elimination tournament will send its overall winner to the world baseball classic in March
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleJTA — Team Israel has announced its 28-man roster for the World Baseball Classic Qualifier, which begins this week.
Two former Major League Baseball players, Shawn Green and Gabe Kapler, will play outfield when Israel faces South Africa in Jupiter, Fla. on Sept. 19, according to a news release. The double-elimination tournament will send its overall winner to the baseball classic in March.
Green and Kapler are also Team Israel’s coaches; former MLB catcher Brad Ausmus will manage the team.
Three Israelis, Alon Leichman, Shlomo Lipetz and Dan Rothem, are among the pitchers. The remaining players come from Minor League Baseball teams.
