Medics were trying to revive two teens who were pulled unconscious out of the Jordan River on Friday after being swept away.

The two were part of a group that entered the river in northern Israel between Sde Nehemia and Amir at a site that is not authorized for bathing.

Initially there were fears that a third youth was also missing, but this proved to be unfounded, police said.

Magen David Adom Medics were trying to resuscitate the two youths, aged 13 and 17. One was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

“We received a call about three teens, about 17 years old, who had drowned in a part of the river that is not open to hikers. We reached in large forces, including ambulances … and a Magen David helicopter,” said medic Gabriel Danino.

“We saw a teen on the river’s bank, unconscious, with no pulse and not breathing, and immediately began administering medical treatment. As we were resuscitating the boy, civilians who were on site pulled another unconscious teen from the water. Our other teams that were at the site began resuscitation procedures on him as well,” he said.

One of the teens was evacuated to the Rivka Sieff Hospital in Safed and the other continued to be treated on the scene.
