An assassination attempt in Or Akiva injured a father and son Sunday morning when a car they were walking near exploded.

The blast came from a bomb attached to a car as part of a suspected organized crime assassination attempt in the coastal plain city, police said.

The father, in his 50s, suffered from shrapnel injuries to his face and the son, in his 30s, had injuries to his limbs, Channel 10 news reported.

The father and son were taken to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in nearby Hadera for treatment.

It is still unclear as to whether the victims of the attack were the intended targets of the attack or innocent bystanders.

The country has suffered a spate of car bombings in the past several months as part of an underworld war. Police and other officials have vowed to crack down on the trend.
