Dozens of firefighters were battling a massive blaze at a south London mosque and community center on Saturday.
Photos shared on social media showed smoke billowing up from the Baitul Futuh Mosque from kilometers away as emergency crews worked to contain the flames.
According to reports, both the mosque and the community center in London’s Morden neighborhood were evacuated safely.
Some 70 firefighters were said to be at the scene tackling the blaze that engulfed the structure’s ground floor and parts of the first floor.
The BBC reported one man was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
Completed in 2003, the Baitul Futuh Mosque is said to be the largest mosque in the Western Europe. The $8.3 million complex can accommodate up to 10,000 worshipers and covers an area of 21,000 square meters.
