A man was gunned down Thursday afternoon on a city street in Bat Yam in what police are investigating as a probable mob hit.
The victim, David Cheishvili, 24, a resident of the city, was said to have been involved in criminal activity, suffered serious injuries to his upper body in the attack and paramedics were unable to save his life.
Police were investigating reports that the shots came from two men riding a motorbike.
The shooting happened at the corner of Rothschild and Balfour streets in the coastal city, just south of Tel Aviv.
The shooting came as indictments were filed Thursday in the so-called police Case 1131, which deals with a series of underworld killings.
Indictments were filed against Moshe Ben David, 47, Shmuel Ben David, 25, and another defendant whose name is restricted under a gag order. Moshe Ben David, who is accused of the drive-by murder of Mor Elgrabli six years ago, tried to flee the country a month ago on a yacht after being released to house arrest.
Earlier this month police detained nine people, including one person officers referred to as “the head of a major crime family,” for suspected involvement in the underworld slayings.
The victims in Case 1131 were killed by what the Ynet news website termed the “Little Red Riding Hood” method, in which a victim is invited to a meeting with other underworld figures and then slain.
