Glitch leaves Netvision customers sans email for 3 days

Israelis who use the Netvision internet service for their email hosting have been unable to send or receive messages for three days.

Many customers began to experience a lack of service on Friday, reportedly after a storage system operated by the Japanese company Hitachi crashed.

The Cellcom phone company, which owns Netvision, told the Ynet news outlet that “some of our customers have a specific difficulty. It is being taken care of.”

The news site reported that customers found that if they tried to fix the problem by rebooting their router, they were then unable to connect to the internet at all.

“Email is a basic service. Its absence causes damage,” an unnamed Cellcom customer said to Ynet. “And besides, if they are slow in fixing it, they should refund us proportionately.”

The news outlet said that teams in Israel and Japan were working to fix the issue, but that service might not be restored until Monday evening.

Cellcom, a major cellphone operator in Israel, bought out internet service provider Netvision in 2011 and merged their operations.
