Holocaust survivor and her nurse assaulted in Lod; 3 teenagers arrested
Officers searching suspects’ homes found nurse’s stolen bag and other evidence tying them to crime, perpetrated two days before Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Day

Three teenagers were arrested for allegedly assaulting a Holocaust survivor and her nurse in the central city of Lod, police said Wednesday, the eve of Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Day.
According to the police, the assailants on Tuesday knocked the two women to the ground, doused them with pepper spray and stole the nurse’s bag. Investigators identified three suspects aged 14-15, from Lod and neighboring Ramle, and officers who searched the suspects’ homes Tuesday night found the stolen bag and other evidence linking them to the crime, police said.
The suspects were detained after being interrogated, the statement said, adding that police would ask the court on Wednesday to extend their custody.
The statement came hours before Israel was set to memorialize the 6 million Jews murdered by Nazi Germany during the World War II. Israel’s national Holocaust Memorial Day, which is observed according to the Hebrew calendar, will be marked with services across the country on Wednesday evening and Thursday.
Israel is home to most of the world’s survivors of the Holocaust, with some 110,100 out of an estimated total of about 210,300 worldwide.
