Israeli gymnast wins European championship
Alex Shatilov receives gold medal at competition in Moscow, shares honor with British gymnast Max Whitlock
Israeli gymnast Alex Shatilov won the 2013 European Gymnastics Championship for floor exercise in Moscow on Saturday.
Shatilov, 26, was given 15.533 points for his performance and will share his gold medal with British gymnast Max Whitlock who received an identical score.
On Sunday, Shatilov will compete in the horizontal bar event.
Previously, he won bronze and silver medals in European championships in 2009 and 2011.
The Uzbekistan-born Israeli gymnast finished in sixth place in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and is considered one of Israel’s best hopes for the Rio Olympics in 2016.
