Arab group slams court decision to jail Islamic Movement leader

The Higher Arab Monitoring Committee slams a Jerusalem court’s decision to reject an appeal by the head of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement against a 2007 conviction for incitement.

The rejection of Raed Salah’s appeal is a move “against the entire Arab population,” says Mohammed Barakeh, the head of the Higher Arab Monitoring Committee and a former Hadash MK.

“Salah was sentenced over a legitimate political statement in defense of the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” Barakeh says, according to the Walla website. “This decision is not only against Salah, but against the entire Arab population as it challenges [Israeli] actions on the Temple Mount.”
