The terrorist responsible for Sunday’s shooting attack, in which two were killed and five injured, can now officially be named as Mesbah Abu Sabih, following a Jerusalem court decision to partially remove a gag order on the investigation.
Sabih, a 39-year-old resident of Silwan in East Jerusalem, opened fire at pedestrians in the capital on Sunday, killing one person before he was shot dead in a gun battle with police. One of the officers in the shootout was killed, while a second was moderately wounded.

Within an hour of the attack, the Israel Police and Shin Bet security service requested and received a court-approved gag order on all details of the case, including Abu Sabih’s name and the names of the victims.
The Jerusalem District Court has partially cut the gag order, allowing the publications of the assailant’s and victims’ names.
This gag order has not prevented non-Israeli media, including Palestinian outlets, from publishing Abu Sabih’s personal information, causing some to question the efficacy of such an order.
