FM tells UN that Hezbollah has attacked Israel 3,500 times this month, urges terror designation

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar calls on the United Nations Security Council to formally designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, in a letter to the body shared by his office.

“Hezbollah has carried out more than 3,500 attacks against Israel since March 2. The attacks include the launching of rockets, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles toward Israel,” Sa’ar writes in the letter, amid intensified fighting with the Iran-backed terror group during the ongoing US-Israel war with Iran.

The foreign minister calls on the Security Council to condemn Hezbollah, designate it as a terrorist organization, pressure Lebanon to disarm it in line with UN resolutions, and hold Iran accountable for supporting the group.

Amid international concerns surrounding Israeli plans to expand ground and air attacks in Lebanon, Sa’ar stresses that “Israel will not accept violations of its sovereignty and attacks against it and its citizens and will take all necessary measures to protect them, in accordance with international law.”

He adds that in the IDF’s targeted operations against Hezbollah since the campaign began, “hundreds of terrorists have been neutralized, including through precision strikes against senior Hezbollah commanders, key leaders of the Radwan elite force, and Iranian operatives involved in planning imminent attacks against Israeli civilians.”

Sa’ar reiterates criticism of inaction from Beirut. “The failure of the government of Lebanon to act against Hezbollah’s military infrastructure demonstrates a lack of will and, sufficient effort and inability to effectively address Hezbollah,” he writes.

The letter was also sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, according to Sa’ar’s office.
