Netanyahu calls off trip to Davos

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cancels a planned trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on January 17-20.

A statement from his office, announcing the schedule change, gives no reason for the decision.

Last month, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution condemning Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Palestinian incitement and violence.

Following the resolution’s passage, Netanyahu reportedly canceled a meeting at Davos with British Prime Minister Theresa May over the UK’s support for the resolution and promised to take diplomatic measures against other countries as well.

In addition, Netanyahu has been the subject of two police investigations for corruption, involving expensive gifts from wealthy benefactors and an alleged quid pro quo deal with the publisher of the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
