Police: Fugitive’s explosive belt was fake

Catalan police chief Josep Lluís Trapero says the explosive belt worn by main suspect Younes Abouyaaqoub before he was shot by police turned out to be fake.

He says Abouyaaqoub yelled “Allahu akbar,” and police opened fire when they saw the belt.

Five other suspects shot and killed in Cambrils after a terror attack were also wearing fake explosives belts.

Trapero adds that the police investigation into the Barcelona and Cambrils terror attacks is not over.
