Man found dead in Taibe in suspected murder; suspect arrested
Body found buried on outskirts of Arab Israeli city after family alerted police that victim, in his 30s, was missing
The body of a Taibe resident was found overnight, buried in an open area on the outskirts of the Arab Israeli city, the Israel Police said Tuesday.
Officers arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder.
The deceased was identified in Hebrew media reports as Aboudi Abdel Kader, 30.
Family reported Abdel Kader missing to police after he failed to arrive at his parents’ home.
A police search eventually discovered the body. Forensic teams arrived to gather evidence from the site and officers began to look for witnesses and other evidence in the case, a police statement said.
The suspect is to be brought to court for a remand hearing later Tuesday.
There was no immediate word on the suspected motive for Abdel Kader’s killing.
Arab communities have seen a surge in violence in recent years, driven mainly, but not exclusively, by organized crime.
According to the Aman Center, which campaigns against violence in the Arab community, since the start of the year 16 Arab Israelis have been killed in criminal circumstances.
Arab Israelis blame police, who they say have failed to crack down on powerful criminal organizations and largely ignore the violence, which includes family feuds, mafia turf wars and violence against women.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Public Security Minister Omer Barlev have vowed to crack down on the violence, as well as on illegal weapons.
In February, police reported a 37 percent drop in shooting incidents in Arab Israeli communities so far this year, as the force ramped up its activity.
