Three dead in pileup in south, boy drowns in Golan, man killed in ATV accident

A deadly seven-vehicle collision involving cars and tractor trailers killed three and injured eight on Wednesday near the Negev town of Nitsana.

Reports of how many people were injured differed, ranging from six to 10, all of whom were in light to moderate condition and evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. Two people were declared dead at the scene and another was declared dead at Soroka.

Initial police investigations suggested that a driver lost control of his vehicle due to poor visibility caused by a sandstorm and swerved into oncoming traffic. Other vehicles on the road subsequently collided with the wrecks, and a trailer truck flipped as the driver tried to brake in time.

Magen David Adom paramedics tried to reach the site via helicopter, but the weather prevented them from landing. An army helicopter responded thereafter, followed by MDA paramedics in ambulances. The Israel Prison Service assisted in evacuating the injured.

Paramedics rescued injured passengers who were trapped in their crushed vehicles.

On Tuesday, two deadly accidents in central Israel resulted in two fatalities and three injuries.

Boy drowns in northern stream

A 15-year-old boy drowned while hiking in northern Israel with his family on Wednesday.

The family was hiking in Nahal Zavitan in the Golan Heights when the boy entered the water to cool off. A family member saw his body in the water and called for medical assistance.

MDA paramedics, assisted by a Golan Rescue unit, arrived on the scene after the boy was already taken out of the water. After an hour-long attempt to resuscitate him, a doctor declared the boy was dead.

On Saturday, a 26-year-old woman drowned in the Kinneret, and a 13-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Golda Park, south of Beersheba.

37-year-old killed when ATV flips over

A 37-year-old man was killed in the north on Wednesday when the ATV he was riding flipped over.

The incident occurred near Emek Azriel. Another man was lightly injured in the accident.
