For the first time since its establishment in June 2011, the Ministry of Home Front Defense will get a director general. The newly appointed minister, Avi Dichter, announced Wednesday that he would appoint former IDF Home Front Command chief Maj.-Gen. (ret.) Gabi Ofir to the post.

Alon Rosen, who was the acting chief executive, is expected to resign soon.

The Knesset swore former Shin Bet head and Kadima MK Dichter into his role last week.

Ofir’s service history also includes a spell as a commander of the Golani infantry Brigade.
