Police arrest East Jerusalem man armed with knife
Suspect approaches detectives in Shuafat with 7-inch blade drawn, then attempts to flee; none injured

The Israel Police on Monday arrested a Palestinian man armed with a knife in East Jerusalem who attempted to stab an officer, a spokesperson said.
Two detectives were at the scene in the East Jerusalem neighborhood to investigate reports of stones thrown at the light rail. They were questioning two suspects when another officer espied a teen approaching them, with a knife drawn.
After they identified themselves as police officers, the suspect, identified by police as an 18-year-old Palestinian from Shuafat, attempted to flee and was arrested in possession of a knife. He was taken in for questioning.
No injuries were reported.
Police shared a photo of the 7-inch (19-cm) blade allegedly in the suspect’s possession at the time.
“The officers’ alertness and quick and professional response prevented bodily harm,” the commander of the police district said.
Earlier in the day a teenage Palestinian terrorist stabbed a woman in the settlement of Tekoa, southeast of Jerusalem in the West Bank, moderately injuring her.
The 15-year-old stabber was shot by an armed civilian after fleeing the scene, outside a clothing warehouse in the community. Although the IDF initially said he was dead, the army later amended its statement, saying he was evacuated to a hospital for treatment.
Magen David Adom paramedics reported they were called to treat the injured woman, Michal Froman, who suffered from wounds to her upper body.
She is the daughter-in-law of the late Rabbi Menachem Froman, a former rabbi of the community who was known as a peace activist.
The stabbings came a day after a Palestinian terrorist stabbed to death Dafna Meir, a mother of six, in her home in the Otniel settlement, south of Hebron. The assailant fled and a massive manhunt has been underway to apprehend him.
