The Knesset hosted Thursday a delegation of visiting beauty queens from the US, who are touring the country as part of a public diplomacy project, The Face of Israel.
The visit was a bright spot in Israel-US relations after a day which saw the Obama administration heavily criticizing Israel for a plan, whose final approval was announced Wednesday, to build 2,600 apartments in the East Jerusalem Givat Hamatos neighborhood.
The 11 women, all former beauty contest winners, toured the Knesset building and met with Knesset Director-General Ronen Plot, who gave a presentation about the workings of Israel’s parliament. The visitors also had lunch with MK Pnina Tamanu-Shata of the Yesh Atid party.
The Knesset is currently in recess and will return on October 22, after the Sukkot holiday, so the women did not have a chance to see the MKs engage in the “talent portion” of lawmaking.
The Face of Israel, a project of the Foreign Ministry, offers subsidized tours of Israel to opinion and community leaders from around the world.
