The cost of gasoline in Israel could reach NIS 8 per liter in April, the highest price ever, as the sanctions on Iran are felt around the world, according to Maariv.
Gasoline prices have been on a steady incline in recent months, as tensions with Iran have helped push the price of oil beyond the $107/barrel mark.
Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, which would severely hamper the movement of oil around the world.
Several factors influence the price of gasoline in Israel, including the cost of oil and a number of taxes and fees. The final price is decided at the end of every month by a special state committee, and while the official numbers for April have yet to be released, many people believe they will be at an all-time high.
Last month the price for a liter of gasoline went up, but a last minute intervention by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following a public outcry prevented it from reaching the NIS 8 mark.
