Harrison Ford injured in LA plane crash

‘Indiana Jones” actor Harrison Ford was injured Thursday when his small plane crashed onto a golf course outside Los Angeles.

The 72-year-old suffered multiple gashes to his head and was left bleeding after the crash of a vintage two-seater plane, the TMZ site reported, publishing a picture of the downed plane, its nose cone ripped open.

An LA Fire Department spokesman, who did not identify Harrison, said the pilot of a single-engine plane was critically injured in the crash.

Assistant Los Angeles Fire Chief Patrick Butler reported that the plane struck a tree as it crashed on to the golf course. Butler said the occupant was transported to a local hospital in “fair to moderate” condition.

Paramedics “initiated spinal mobilization, started an IV and began all the necessary medical protocols that we do,” Butler said.

The actor is an aviation enthusiast who often flies out of the Santa Monica Airport. Penmar Golf Course, where the crash happened, is just west of a runway there.

The plane appeared to be a World War II-era vintage training plane. It was mostly intact after the wreck, and Ford was the only person aboard.

Ford is cast to play swashbuckling space-age soldier-of-fortune Han Solo in his fourth “Star Wars” movie, set for release in December.

The original “Star Wars” in 1977 made Ford an overnight star who remains an A-list actor with several colossal box office hits in his credits. He played whip-slinging archaeologist Indiana Jones in four movies in that series.

Ford was also set to reprise his role as Rick Deckard in a sequel to the dystopian, neo-noir “Blade Runner,” more than 31 years after the film first premiered.

Ridley Scott directed the 1982 movie, which was adapted from the Philip K. Dick novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.”

Alcon Entertainment announced Ford’s role last month and said Scott will serve as an executive producer on the sequel.

Production on the film will begin in the summer of 2016. The story will take place several decades after the events at the conclusion of the 1982 film.

Born to a Jewish mother whose parents immigrated from Belarus and a father with an Irish Catholic background, the actor once said during an “Inside the Actor’s Studio” sit-down in 2000:  “As a man I’ve always felt Irish, as an actor I’ve always felt Jewish.”

When asked which religion he adhered to in a 2011 interview, Ford quipped that he and his brother were “raised Democrat.”
