The most popular names among children born in Israel in the last year were Muhammad for boys and Tamar for girls, according to details released by the Interior Ministry on Thursday.
It is the second year in a row that those two names topped the lists.
Tamar was the top girls’ name in the overall population and among the Jewish population. When only looking at boys’ names used exclusively among the Jewish population, the number one spot was taken by the names Ori and Uri, which are spelled the same in Hebrew.
Adele was a newly popular name among girls, taking the number two spot, followed by the traditional Biblical names Miriam, Sarah and Abigail. For the first time in over a decade, longtime favorite girls’ name Noa was not in the top five, dropping down to six.
The boys list saw Yossef or Yussef at number two, followed by David, Daniel and Uri/Ori.
