Jeff Goldblum sheds shirt to tout bulbs
Actor stars as conceited celebrity in a way-out GE infomercial

Actor Jeff Goldblum, known for his roles in films like “The Fly,” “Jurassic Park” and “The Big Chill,” lights up the small screen in a new lightbulb ad from GE.
The two-minute-long fake infomercial may or may not convince you to go out and buy the GE Link connected LED bulb, but it will sure have you mesmerized.
Goldblum, 61, plays a 1970s-era “famous person” named Terry Quattro who claims he has the solution for giving us “successful guy lighting at normal guy prices.” After all, he should know about lighting—it’s what’s enabled him to achieve stardom, apparently.
It’s hard to look away from the obnoxious and conceited character, even with Goldblum’s ridiculous wig and silk-screened smoking jacket triggering our gag reflex. The scene in which the actor wears nothing but a tight bathing suit and heavy gold chain necklaces while playing the piano in a hot tub is hilarious.
According to Adweek, this bizarre ad is a major departure for GE, whose other recent collaborations with the BBDO ad agency have produced dreamlike, otherworldly spots that tug at the heartstrings. This new one is just as creative, but obviously in a very different way.
The major takeaway from this new faux infomercial?
As Quattro says, “For an embarrassingly small amount of money you can kiss your horribly lit, non-successful life goodbye.”
Oh, and there’s also that hot tub image that will stay with you for some time. For a guy who’s a whole lot older than your average male model, Goldblum looks damn good without his shirt.
