Larry David reveals family ties to Bernie Sanders

Veteran comedian Larry David revealed Wednesday that he is related to former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, the politician he had impersonated in TV skits during the 2015-16 election campaign.

David’s impressions of Sanders’s passionate oratory were a hit with viewers of the popular “Saturday Night Live” comedy show. Sanders even joined David for a cameo appearance in one scene three days before the New Hampshire primary in February 2016.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, David, the creator and star of the hit HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” who was previously a co-creator of “Seinfeld,” explained that the link was uncovered during the making of a television documentary about Sanders, Variety reported.

Sanders discovered they were related filming an episode of “Finding Your Roots” for PBS, a show that explores the history and background of well-known figures.

“I was very happy about that,” said David, who was promoting the upcoming season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” the ninth for the show. “I thought there must have been some connection.”

He did not explain exactly what the relationship was, saying only that Sanders is “a third cousin or something.”

“Curb You Enthusiasm” is slated to air its ninth season later this year, after a six-year hiatus.
