Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi issues a statement “urgently” calling for a “cessation of all violence and hostilities.”

The Egyptian leader, whose government has long been involved in brokering ceasefires between Hamas and Israel, says Cairo is working around the clock to bring one about.

“The hope is always there, and now we must all move to end the current state of violence,” he says.
