Officer who beat Ethiopian-Israeli disciplined

The beating of Damas Pakada at the hands of two officers set off a series of violent protests in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
An amateur video published following the beating showed two policemen pummeling a uniformed Pakada in an apparently unprovoked attack. The incident became a rallying cry for members of the Ethiopian-Israeli community, who allege ongoing discrimination and racism against them.
More than 135,000 Jews of Ethiopian descent live in Israel, many of them having immigrated in two waves in 1984 and 1991. But they have struggled to integrate into Israeli society among lingering accusations of institutional discrimination.
