Eleven people were injured after a fire broke out at Maasiyahu Prison in Ramle, south of Tel Aviv.
It was unclear what caused the fire, which broke out in the prison’s wood factory.
Five guards and six inmates were being treated for smoke inhalation on site as firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze.
Maasiyahu Prison’s most famous inmate is disgraced former president Moshe Katsav. He’s been a resident since December 2011, when he started serving out a seven-year sentence for rape.
