A YouTube video showing an egg being thrown at an African migrant in Tel Aviv has caused a stir in Israel on Monday, with hundreds “liking” it and the police asking the public for help in finding those responsible.

The 10-second clip was removed from the video-hosting site for “shocking and disturbing content,” after it had been heavily shared and circulated across social media. It was later reposted by someone else.

Before removal, the video shows a man getting out of his car and throwing an egg at a man on a bike in Tel Aviv, as his friend — who filmed the incident — encouraged him and laughed.

The video spread quickly on Facebook, where it ended up on the official page of the Israel Police, along with a request for help in identifying those who were involved.

Tension in south Tel Aviv between residents and African migrants has risen in the past weeks. Following the arrests of migrants for various crimes, residents held a demonstration last weekend during which some protesters attacked the car of a migrant worker.
