Hamas officials said they would create a joint commission with Egypt to investigate the attack in Sinai in which 16 Egyptian soldiers were killed on August 5, Ynet news reported on Wednesday.

The commission, to be formed by the government seated in Gaza, would be responsible for security cooperation with Egyptian forces. The report said a high-ranking official from the Hamas’s interior ministry would represent the organization, and an intelligence official would represent Egyptian interests.

Hamas noted that such a commission would be an unprecedented acknowledgement of its rule over the Gaza Strip.
