An Air Canada flight en route to Tel Aviv was diverted to London on Monday morning after declaring an in-flight emergency.

Reports indicated that the crew of flight AC 84 declared an emergency while south of Ireland and requested permission to land in London.

The BNO website reported that the plane landed safely in Heathrow Airport early in the morning.

The Ben Gurion Airport website showed the flight arriving Monday afternoon with a delay of some four hours.

According to BNO, the distress call sent by the plane indicted an in-flight emergency, most likely a maintenance issue, but there was no comment from Air Canada at the time of the report.

The number of passengers and crew is also unknown but the type of airplane, a Boeing 787=9 Dreamliner, typically carries up to 290 passengers.
