An Israeli man died on Wednesday in an accident at a popular scuba diving site in Malta.
The fatal accident occurred off the coast of Gozo, an island just off the mainland.
The man aged around 50 had traveled to Malta with several friends for a vacation, and reportedly encountered difficulty while diving.
He was brought to the surface by his friends after they noticed he hadn’t ascended.
When they reached the surface with the man, he was unconscious.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead.
According to Maltese news reports, police were investigating the circumstances of the man’s death.
The Foreign Ministry said it was assisting the family in returning the body to Israel for burial.
This incident follows a number of other recent instances in which Israeli nationals have died while vacationing abroad.
Last week, a six-year-old Israeli girl was killed in a jet ski accident in Cyprus.
An Israeli man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Greece in June, and an Israeli woman was killed in an ATV accident on the Greek island of Santorini the previous month.
