The Defense Ministry says it seeks to implement a series of reforms to boost Israel’s defense exports.
The decision by Defense Ministry Director General Amir Baram comes after a panel of experts appointed to look into the issue of defense exports made a list of recommendations.
The ministry says the recommendations that Baram approved include a “significant easing” in the licensing process and a shift to a single-stage licensing procedure for most non-classified products; a “substantial expansion” of the list of permitted countries for export; and “increased enforcement and strengthened commitment by exporters to responsible and safe export.”
The reforms are still subject to approval by Defense Minister Israel Katz and, in some cases, also legislative changes.
Annual Israeli arms sales reached nearly $14.8 billion in 2024, a new record for the fourth consecutive year, amounting to double the value of exports of five years ago, according to data published in June.
