Netanyahu looking to pass ‘Jewish state’ bill into law next week
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GooglePrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tells coalition leaders he’ll push for the “Jewish state” bill to be voted on in its second and third readings next week.
Approving the proposed legislation would allow it to be voted into law before the Knesset breaks for its summer recess later this month.
The bill, which would cement Israel’s status as “the national home of the Jewish people” as a so-called Basic Law, has been criticized as discriminatory toward the country’s Arab population and other minorities.
