Netanyahu says US committed to preserving Israel’s military edge

Netanyahu says the US is committed to maintaining Israel’s qualitative military edge in the Middle East, and has added an additional $75 million to Israel’s missile defense programs.

The prime minister’s assurances come after a handful of Israeli officials voiced concern at the newly inked $110 billion arms deal between the US and Saudi Arabia.

“We very much appreciate the important assistance and support [of the US],” Netanyahu says. “But I would again like to emphasize that history has proven that Israel’s security depends on our ability to to defend ourselves, using our own strength, against any threat.”

He says the additional $75 million in aid was pledged by Trump during his visit to Israel earlier this week.
