Police said willing to permit MK Temple Mount visits
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GooglePolice are prepared to allow Jewish and Arab MKs to visit the Temple Mount again, one year after banning such visits amid fear they could stoke tensions.
Police say they are committed to “normalization” of the situation on the Temple Mount and ensuring lawmakers have “freedom of movement,” according to Channel 2.
The decision still needs to be approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan.
Police had stopped such visits one year ago, fearing that they could provoke violence at the flashpoint holy site.
Chanel 2 says that lawmakers will still need to abide by a series of conditions, including visiting without guards or accompanying press.
