Shaked: US won’t be ‘mean-spirited’ over Shiloh construction

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked calls yesterday’s furious American response to new housing units in a West Bank settlement “disproportionate,” but says she does not think that the US administration would take any “mean-spirited” steps against the Jewish state, such as deciding not to veto anti-Israel resolutions at the UN Security Council.

The response to the expansion of the Shiloh settlement to house residents of the Amona outpost tapped for demolition was disproportionate considering the state of the wider Middle East, including Syria, she tells Channel 2 television.

Shaked says that while the US administration has the right to respond in whichever way it chooses, it is unlikely to take such severe action in the final months of Obama’s term, given the close US-Israel relationship.
