Mother, 4-month-old baby killed in car crash in south
Total of four people killed in road incidents Monday, including 18-year-old near Arara junction, two-year-old girl in Tel Aviv

A woman in her 30s and her four month-old baby were killed in a car crash near the southern city of Beersheba on Monday, police said.
An initial police investigation found that the woman had stopped at the side of the road on Highway 40, between Goral Junction and Lehavim junction after some car trouble forced her to pull over. She got out of the car, apparently with the baby, and was struck by a passing vehicle.
The driver of the car that allegedly hit the mother was taken to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba. He said, “I didn’t see them at all, she was not on the shoulder of the road. The baby was in the car, I do not know what happened to her. I felt the collision. I saw the car from a distance, but I didn’t see her,” Ynet news site reported.
Magen David paramedics said, “When we arrived we were faced with a horrific sight. A private car was smashed near the safety rail and outside the car we saw a 30-year-old woman and a baby… with no pulse or respiration and with multiple injuries.
In a separate incident in the south, an 18-year-old man was killed and an 18-year-old woman moderately injured when a vehicle overturned on Highway 25 south of the Arara junction.
Earlier on Monday, a two-year-old girl was killed in Tel Aviv when she was hit by a car. An initial police investigation revealed that the girl’s mother accidentally ran her over.
According to the National Road Safety Authority, eight children (between the ages of 0-14) were killed in road accidents so far this year among a total of 226 fatalities. In 2016 over the same period 212 people were killed in road incidents.
