The police arrested two tourists in their thirties suspected of attempting to rape a 38-year-old woman, also a tourist, in the central Israeli city of Be’er Ya’akov, on Sunday evening.
Police said they received a call from a person who reported seeing two men forcing a woman into the bushes in one of the neighborhoods in the city, according to reports in the Hebrew media.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the woman with a torn shirt and scratches on her legs. She said she knew the two men and had spent the evening drinking with them. She told police that at a certain point the men forced her into the bushes and attempted to rape her.
She said she managed to resist them and get away until police arrived.
The unnamed tourist was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The men were arrested and taken in for questioning. Police were to file a request to extend their remand at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
