A bomber in Dublin, Ireland, was injured by his own bomb earlier this week when the explosives, which the would-be perpetrator had planted on a local vehicle, went off earlier than expected.
Police speculated that the recent change to daylight savings time may have had something to do with the erroneous detonation.
The bomb in question went off overnight Monday in the South Inner City neighborhood of Dublin.
Witnesses saw the bomber, apparently injured and bleeding after the explosion, flee the scene in a quickly hailed taxi.
He remains at large.
In Ireland the clocks were changed overnight Sunday, and police said that “it would appear that the bomber got his timings wrong. It could be a case where he didn’t put his watch forward on Sunday and the timer went off too soon.”
Authorities said the bomb was high-grade and the car was totally destroyed by the blast, but that the bombing was likely criminal in nature and not a terrorist incident.
The vehicle belonged to a local businessman with no apparent criminal ties.
A police official said an investigation was opened and the search was on for the suspected bomber.
The spokesman urged him to come forward, as it is believed that “he may have significant injuries as a result of this incident and… might require urgent medical attention.”
