The district court in Lod on Sunday found Michal Aloni guilty of killing her two daughters two years ago. The defense asked for a reduced sentence due to the mother’s mental illness.
Aloni confessed to the act, but claimed she was ordered by the devil to strangle the girls. She killed the two children at their home in Ra’anana in November 2010.
During the past two years, it became apparent the court would not rule Aloni mentally incapable of standing trial, and the defense decided to ask for a lesser sentence instead.
There will be a number of psychiatric hearings to determine Aloni’s mental capability, and the verdict will not be given until they end.
Aloni faces possible multiple life sentences, Israel Radio reported.
