The International Red Cross transferred 150,000 liters of diesel fuel to Gaza’s Health Ministry on Thursday to operate the generators supplying electricity to the strip’s 13 public hospitals.
The Palestinian Ma’an News Agency quotes the group as saying that the fuel supplies will help those hospitals maintain essential services for the next 10 days.
The Hamas government in the Gaza Strip reached an agreement with Egypt on Tuesday to permanently end the electricity crisis in Gaza, but the transfer of fuel has not yet been implemented.
An anonymous IDF source who spoke on condition of anonymity noted that the Red Cross had to provide the diesel to Gaza because Hamas’s refusal to pay higher prices for Egyptian or Israeli fuel had caused an energy crisis. .
