14-year-old girl fatally struck by car in Petah Tikva
Liron Brami’s aunt says her niece, who recently moved away from the central Israeli city, was going to say goodbye to friends when she was hit; police report car ran red light
A teenage girl died early Saturday after being struck by a car in the central city of Petah Tikva.
Liron Brami, 14, recently moved with her mother and younger brother from Petah Tikva to the southern town of Sderot, according to her aunt, who said her niece was going to say goodbye to some friends when she was fatally hit.
Paramedics took Brami to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“From what we understand, she and the friend who was with her were walking. Liron apparently crossed the road and a vehicle struck her and critically injured her,” Simona Brami Elzayad told Channel 12 news. “Her friend is still in shock and can’t talk and share with us. We are waiting for the report of the crash investigator.”
“We are in shock from this tragedy,” the aunt added.
Police opened a probe into the incident and later said Brami was struck by a car that ran a red light.
The driver, a 40-year-old resident of Petah Tikva, was detained for questioning before being released under conditions.

Brami’s death came at the end of a deadly week on Israeli roads, with 13 people killed in road-related incidents between Wednesday and Friday morning.
Despite the rising death toll, the 213 traffic fatalities in Israel this year as of Thursday morning were still 4% lower than the year previous, according to the latest figures from the National Road Safety Authority.
A total of 364 people were killed in traffic incidents in Israel in 2021.
