Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein’s wife, Aviva Weinstein, was convicted in a plea bargain Wednesday of hiring a migrant worker who did not have a work permit. She was ordered to pay a fine of NIS 20,000 ($5,400).

As part of the deal struck with the Interior Ministry’s Population, Immigration and Borders Authority, Weinstein confessed to illegally employing the worker, Indian-born Soze Felix.

The indictment stated that though Felix had been staying in Israel legally, he had not acquired the needed work permit and was not authorized to carry out housework.

Felix was employed at the Weinstein residence from January to August 2009.

After the incident was revealed in 2010, Felix fled back to his home country.

Yehuda Weinstein had not yet assumed the position of attorney general at the time of Felix’s employment.
